Product information "Portieux Repro Karaffe"
Portieux was one of the most renowned glassworks of the 19th century. Similar to the Baccarat glass-blowing factory, which is about 40 km away, the Lorraine glass-blowing factory founded in 1705 produced high-quality carafes, plates, glasses, sugar containers, etc. made of crystal glass.
A particularly complex piece to make, this carafe features two openings, with the larger opening for filling with ice water and the small opening for pouring.
Antiquarian originals are extremely difficult to find and if you do find one, the small opening is usually damaged, meaning that the carafe no longer serves its intended purpose.
For this reason, we had this carafe replicated by a crystal glass blowing workshop. With the result, the search for a historical carafe is completely unnecessary, because as good as this reproduction is, the originals must have been about as good.
