The ingredients for Henri Bardouin Pastis are sourced worldwide: star anise from China, licorice from Turkey, grains of paradise from the Great Lakes region, tonka beans from Guyana, Cardamom from the Indian Ocean and many others. A long journey that begins and ends in the wild landscape of the Montagne de Lure in the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence. Here, many things are still picked by hand, such as thyme, rosemary, sage and mugwort using traditional methods that come from local knowledge of medieval herbalism.
After the harvested plants and spices are dried, they are macerated in alcohol to extract their aromatic properties. Each ingredient requires different temperatures, maceration times and alcohol levels, so that at the end of this completely natural process an infusion with the desired taste and balance is created.
Once the spirits are made from maceration and distillation, they are brought together in precise quantities and a specific order, the secrets of which are from Henri Bardouin Pastis must be carefully guarded. A crucial step that requires rigorous testing and repeated tastings.

The Distillerie de Lure, founded in 1898 in Forcalquier, Provence, experienced several changes of ownership over almost 80 years. Among them was Henri Bardouin, a passionate plant and herb lover. In 1974, Alain Robert and his small team took over the company, now known as Distilleries et Domaines de Provence. Some emblematic brands have existed since the early days of the distillery, while others have been developed over the years to meet changing tastes and drinking habits.
