A great-great-grandfather of our family, Eduard Heinrich Nötzel, lived in Danzig from 1800 to 1874. He took over his father's timber wholesale business and with it the coat of arms of the Nötzel family. The advertisement in the "Newest Guide for Foreigners and Locals" shows that he expanded the business significantly and, in addition to various spirits and liqueurs, also produced his own "Extracte d`Absinthe". In his inn "Zum Elefanten", the label shows the elephant above the name, he offered his specialties for tasting. His son, Otto Louis Nötzel, continued the thriving business. Unfortunately he died early and his son, one of our grandfathers, was too young to take over the management of the company. As a result, operations were discontinued around 1900 and the activities almost fell into oblivion in the turmoil of the two world wars and the abandonment of the family seat in Gdańsk. About 100 years ago, a grandfather from the Upper Palatinate planted a large meadow orchard with over 50 apple, pear, plum and mirabelle plum trees and thus laid the foundation for our Eichelberger distillery. Since 1997 we have been processing the rich fruit harvests into brandies and liqueurs. Since we started producing absinthe in our distillery, we researched with the help of our relatives and found a lot of information about our ancestors and their products. Our absinthe 78 verte was created based on old recipes from the E.H.Nötzel company in Gdansk and is therefore the first of our absinthes to be given the slightly different old "family label". We introduced the somewhat modified old "family label" with it.
