The absinthe Berthe de Joux is the first absinthe, which was produced completely according to the ideas of master distiller Dominique Rousselet.
This absinthe is said to be reminiscent of the legendary Berthe de Joux, who, according to legend, was held prisoner in Fort de Joux. The distillery is directly below. Berthe de Joux was a beautiful 12th-century woman who was imprisoned there during the 12th century. This because of her love for another man who was not hers.
The Berthe de Joux absinthe is carefully distilled with wine alcohol in the hundred-year-old stills because of its silky-fruity note. In addition, fine anise is used for its special flavor and fine fennel for a full-bodied drinking experience. The common wormwood from Pontarlier with its pure aromas and the characteristic tartness is, along with other secret herbs, the basis for this unique absinthe, which gives a very complex taste with its fresh, spicy, peppery and velvety notes.
