Grande Absente Van Gogh is perfect for getting to know absinthe
Grande Absente was already used in ancient times to treat illnesses. When anise was added, an elixir was created that quickly gained popularity. This mixture was initially prescribed to sick people and was finally distilled for the first time. In 1830, soldiers used absinthe to purify water and combat homesickness on their overseas expeditions. After their return, they continued consumption and enthusiasm for absinthe spread among the bourgeoisie and artists. Absinthe, with its intense plant flavors, became a popular drink to which ice-cold water could be added.
A fine aroma of absinthe, mixed with anise, mint and spices. Round anise attack, followed by a well-structured note thanks to the Armoise, and ending with fresh, spicy notes of absinthe, lemon balm and mint.

The Distillerie de Lure, founded in 1898 in Forcalquier, Provence, experienced several changes of ownership over almost 80 years. Among them was Henri Bardouin, a passionate plant and herb lover. In 1974, Alain Robert and his small team took over the company, now known as Distilleries et Domaines de Provence. Some emblematic brands have existed since the early days of the distillery, while others have been developed over the years to meet changing tastes and drinking habits.
