Florian Faude usually only distills local ingredients. Despite the high temperature level in the Kaiserstuhl, blood oranges are not yet growing there, so the cult distiller tried to establish contact in southern Italy in 2015. He met the Sicilian Giancarlo, who has his orchards below Mount Etna. In March 2016, Faude helped with the harvest there and got to know the country, the people and their fruits (tangerines, lemons and blood oranges). The experiments that Florian Faude made at home with the blood orange variety Tarocco di Catania were promising because, unlike the Moro di Catania, this variety has fine vanilla aromas.

For this, the fruits are macerated (set) in alcohol for quite a while. The essential oils of the blood orange peel dissolve in the high-proof alcohol. Then comes the careful distillation process that separates the water and alcohol. What remains is a highly aromatic distillate with over 80% vol., which is then reduced to a drinking strength of 42% vol. is set. Florian Faude deliberately avoids cold filtration because too many aromas are lost here.

What later ends up here in the glass can confidently be described as a walk through a Sicilian orange plantation. Faude Feine Brande stands in the very best sense for aroma preservation by means of distillation! The blood orange spirit gives off the scent of fully ripe fruit that literally invites you to bite into it. A spectacle of aromas opens up on the palate: slightly bitter notes, followed by this outrageous fruitiness, the sweetness and finally subtle vanilla - and with all of this you don't notice any alcoholic sharpness. A poem!

Faude Feine Brände

Florian Faude, born in 1984, belongs to a new generation of fruit distillers. The young man is actually a trained winegrower, but the fruit aroused his interest very early on. Already at the beginning of his apprenticeship he developed the idea of “Faude Feine Brande”. The aim is to revise the dusty image of the fruit brandy. With a healthy down-to-earth attitude, he notes that burned fruit used to be of modest quality and one thing is very clear: If you only throw windfall fruit into the burn pot, you shouldn't be surprised if only a "throat cleaner" comes out at the bottom. For this reason, Faude only uses fully ripe, flawless seasonal fruit. It is also important to him that he only obtains the fruit that he does not grow himself from local businesses that he is friends with. The effort he puts into may be very high, but numerous medals and awards prove that customers such as the First Class Lounge of Lufthansa in Berlin rightly know what is made in Bötzingen am Kaiserstuhl.
